AvidXchange has been selected by legal practice management software provider Centerbase as the exclusive embedded payments partner for its platform, signaling a broader push toward deeper financial workflow automation inside industry-specific business applications.
The partnership brings AvidXchange’s Accounts Payable as a Service solution directly into the Centerbase environment, enabling law firms to manage invoice payments, approvals, and supplier transactions without leaving the platform. The move reflects growing demand among professional services firms for integrated finance operations that reduce manual processes while improving compliance and payment visibility.
As legal organizations face increasing pressure to modernize administrative operations, embedded accounts payable automation is becoming a more strategic component of legal technology ecosystems. Unlike general-purpose AP tools, the integration between Centerbase and AvidXchange is designed specifically around the operational, compliance, and security requirements of law firms.

Embedded AP Automation Moves Closer to Core Workflows
The integration allows Centerbase users to view unpaid invoices, initiate payments, and approve transactions within the existing legal practice management workflow. Once approved, AvidXchange manages payment execution on behalf of the customer, helping firms reduce reliance on paper checks, disconnected banking systems, and manual reconciliation processes.
According to the companies, the system can reduce the amount of time businesses spend managing AP workflows by up to 80%, while also improving payment visibility and operational control.
“Law firms operate in a uniquely high-stakes and strictly compliant financial environment while balancing the day-to-day demands of serving clients,” said Michael Praeger, CEO and Co-Founder of AvidXchange. “By embedding payment automation directly into Centerbase, we help law firms spend less time on back-office work and more time focused on client needs.”
The partnership also provides Centerbase customers with access to AvidXchange’s supplier payment network, which includes more than 1.5 million suppliers across its ecosystem.
ERP and Finance Automation Continue Expanding into Vertical Platforms
The announcement highlights a larger trend unfolding across the enterprise software market: finance automation capabilities are increasingly being embedded directly into vertical industry platforms rather than operating as standalone back-office systems.
For industries such as legal services, where billing complexity, trust accounting requirements, and regulatory oversight create additional operational pressure, integrated AP automation can help reduce administrative bottlenecks while strengthening internal financial controls.
Centerbase CEO Michael Dunn said the partnership aligns with the company’s broader objective of simplifying operational workflows for legal firms through deeper embedded functionality.
“AvidXchange brings deep expertise in automating payments for highly regulated, complex industries, and their proven supplier network and embedded capabilities make them the right partner for our platform and our customers,” Dunn said.
Embedded Finance Continues Reshaping Enterprise Software Strategy
As ERP, financial management, and operational platforms become more interconnected, embedded finance capabilities are emerging as a key differentiator across enterprise software ecosystems. Rather than forcing users to move between multiple disconnected systems, vendors are increasingly prioritizing unified workflows that combine operational management with payment execution and financial automation.
The AvidXchange-Centerbase partnership reflects how AP automation is evolving from a standalone finance function into a more integrated layer within industry-specific software environments—particularly in sectors where compliance, efficiency, and operational visibility remain critical priorities.
