Sage Intacct Expands AI and Workflow Automation Across Core Finance Operations

As finance leaders face growing pressure to accelerate decision-making while reducing operational complexity, ERP vendors are increasingly embedding automation and AI directly into the workflows finance teams rely on every day.

Sage this week announced a significant expansion of automation, workflow intelligence, and AI extensibility capabilities within Sage Intacct, targeting core finance operations including accounts payable, receivables, purchasing, and SaaS performance analytics.

The update introduces a series of new capabilities ranging from AI-driven AP reconciliation and automated receivables follow-up to customizable purchasing approvals and expanded SaaS analytics. Sage also introduced Sage Intacct AI Gateway, a new framework designed to allow customers and partners to securely connect external AI applications and services directly into Sage Intacct environments.

The announcement reflects a growing shift occurring across enterprise finance systems as organizations move beyond isolated automation tools toward more integrated operational intelligence layers embedded inside ERP platforms themselves.

Finance Teams Face Mounting Pressure to Increase Operational Efficiency

The timing of the release aligns with increasing demands being placed on finance organizations. According to Gartner research referenced by Sage, 88% of CFOs rank finance staff productivity among their top priorities for 2026 as organizations continue searching for ways to automate workflows, shorten financial cycles, and improve operational visibility without adding headcount.

For many organizations, however, core finance operations still depend heavily on fragmented systems, manual reconciliation, disconnected approval processes, and repetitive administrative work.

Sage Intacct’s latest release aims to address these operational bottlenecks by embedding automation and AI directly into day-to-day finance execution workflows.

“High-performing finance teams are no longer just closing the books and reporting on what happened,” said Jon Fasoli, SVP of Sage Intacct at Sage. “They are expected to improve cash flow, guide decisions and keep the business moving, all while maintaining strong control.”

One of the more notable additions is AI-driven 3-Way Matching for accounts payable operations. The feature uses AI automation to connect invoices, purchase orders, and receipts while automatically identifying discrepancies before payments are processed. The capability targets one of the more time-consuming and error-prone areas of AP operations, where manual verification often slows payment cycles and introduces operational risk.

Sage also introduced Payment Reminders for accounts receivable teams, allowing finance organizations to automate customer follow-up for open and overdue invoices through centralized visibility and bulk communication workflows.

Sage Pushes Toward AI Extensibility and Governed Finance Automation

Beyond workflow automation itself, the introduction of Sage Intacct AI Gateway signals Sage’s growing focus on enabling extensible AI architectures within finance environments.

The new capability allows organizations and partners to connect tailored AI services and applications directly into Sage Intacct through REST APIs and the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an emerging open standard designed to bridge AI systems and enterprise business applications.

The emphasis on governance and operational control is notable. Rather than positioning AI as a standalone assistant layer, Sage appears to be focusing on integrating AI within defined permissions, approval structures, and finance governance frameworks.

This reflects a wider trend emerging across ERP and finance technology markets, where organizations increasingly want AI embedded into operational systems while maintaining visibility, auditability, and control over how those systems interact with sensitive financial workflows.

The release also expands Sage’s SaaS Intelligence capabilities with enhanced forecasting, cohort analysis, customer segmentation, and recurring revenue visibility designed specifically for SaaS finance teams managing subscription-based business models.

ERP Vendors Continue Embedding AI Into Operational Finance Workflows

The latest Sage Intacct update highlights how ERP vendors are shifting from isolated feature automation toward more deeply connected operational finance environments.

Rather than focusing solely on efficiency gains, many of these new capabilities center around visibility, operational responsiveness, and decision support across complex finance workflows.

“As organizations look to modernize finance operations, finance teams need better visibility across day-to-day workflows while also gaining faster access to meaningful insights,” said Chris Price, Director of SaaS Vertical at Baker Tilly.

The combination of AI-driven reconciliation, embedded workflow automation, configurable approvals, and extensible AI connectivity reflects how modern finance platforms are evolving into operational systems designed not only to record transactions, but to actively coordinate and optimize financial execution.

As enterprise finance teams continue balancing automation demands with governance requirements, releases like this suggest that the next phase of ERP evolution may center less on standalone AI assistants and more on deeply embedded operational intelligence integrated directly into finance workflows.
