AvidXchange Expands Embedded AP Automation Push Through Acumatica Partnership

As ERP platforms continue evolving into broader operational ecosystems, embedded financial workflows are becoming an increasingly important battleground across the mid-market enterprise software landscape.

AvidXchange, a long-established provider of accounts payable automation and payment solutions for mid-market businesses, is deepening that shift through a new embedded AP payment automation integration with Acumatica. The launch extends AvidXchange’s broader strategy of positioning payments, supplier management, and AP execution directly inside ERP environments rather than forcing finance teams to operate across disconnected systems.

The integration, powered by AvidXchange’s Accounts Payable as a Service platform, allows Acumatica customers to initiate, manage, and track supplier payments directly within the ERP environment itself. The move follows Acumatica’s earlier selection of AvidXchange as its strategic payment automation partner for mid-market customers.

The announcement reflects a broader trend emerging across ERP ecosystems: finance leaders increasingly expect operational payments, supplier workflows, and cash management to function natively within enterprise platforms rather than through fragmented external tools.

ERP Workflows Continue Shifting Toward Embedded Financial Operations

For many mid-market organizations, accounts payable operations still involve a mixture of manual approvals, disconnected banking portals, spreadsheet tracking, and fragmented supplier communication processes. As ERP systems increasingly become the operational center of enterprise decision-making, vendors are under growing pressure to simplify these workflows without introducing additional infrastructure complexity.

AvidXchange’s approach focuses on embedding the payment execution layer directly into existing ERP workflows. Through the integration, Acumatica’s more than 10,000 customers gain access to payment initiation, payment tracking, supplier management, and cash flow visibility from within the platform itself.

“Embedded payments make it easier for finance teams to move quickly and stay in control, without adding complexity,” said Michael Praeger, CEO and Co-Founder of AvidXchange. “With this launch, Acumatica customers can manage payments more efficiently within their existing workflows while benefiting from AvidXchange’s supplier network and dedicated support.”

One of the more significant operational differentiators behind the integration is AvidXchange’s supplier network, which now spans more than 1.5 million suppliers. Rather than requiring finance teams to manage supplier onboarding and payment preferences independently, AvidXchange handles enrollment, supplier payment preferences, and ongoing support as part of the managed service model.

This increasingly positions AvidXchange not simply as an AP automation vendor, but as infrastructure supporting embedded B2B payment operations inside enterprise platforms.

Embedded AP Automation Becomes Strategic for ERP Vendors

The partnership also highlights how ERP vendors themselves are increasingly looking to extend financial functionality beyond traditional accounting workflows.

Acumatica CEO John Case framed the launch as part of the company’s broader effort to streamline operational finance management for customers navigating growing business complexity.

“Through our partnership with AvidXchange, we’re continuing to evolve the Acumatica platform to better support our customers’ financial workflows,” said Case. “With embedded payment automation, customers can simplify payments, improve visibility, and operate more efficiently with a solution designed to work seamlessly within Acumatica.”

The operational emphasis behind the announcement is notable. Rather than focusing purely on invoice digitization or approval automation, the integration centers more heavily on execution: payment orchestration, supplier coordination, visibility into payment status, and control over working capital timing.

That reflects a larger market shift occurring across enterprise software environments where ERP platforms are increasingly expected to act not only as systems of record, but as systems of operational execution.

The Mid-Market AP Automation Market Continues to Accelerate

AvidXchange has spent years building its position within the mid-market AP automation space, particularly among organizations seeking enterprise-grade financial controls without the complexity often associated with large enterprise finance systems.

The company says more than 8,000 businesses currently use its AP automation platform, with AI-enhanced workflows and managed payment services designed to reduce manual processing while improving operational visibility and fraud controls.

As embedded finance capabilities continue expanding across ERP ecosystems, integrations like the Acumatica partnership suggest that AP automation is evolving from a standalone finance function into a more deeply integrated operational capability.

For ERP vendors, the pressure to deliver these embedded experiences will likely continue increasing as finance teams seek fewer disconnected systems and greater end-to-end visibility across procurement, payments, suppliers, and cash management operations.

The Acumatica launch represents another step in AvidXchange’s broader expansion strategy as the company continues positioning itself at the center of embedded AP and payment orchestration inside modern ERP environments.
