Axens Finds E-Invoicing Data Gaps in SAP-Connected Invoice Workflow

Axens has identified missing invoice information in its move to electronic invoicing, leaving accountants to reconstruct details previously available in PDFs. The issue has emerged within an established invoice automation workflow connected to SAP through Symtrax’s Compleo Invoice Platform.

According to Républik IT’s November 6 report, 48 suppliers had connected through an approved e-invoicing platform around France’s September 2026 transition. Those flows represented 13.4% of incoming invoices. The figures describe that transition period, rather than a current measure of supplier adoption.

The report says standardized exchanges between approved platforms did not include all the information previously extracted from PDF invoices using OCR and AI. It does not identify the missing fields. Sending the original PDFs as attachments alongside the structured data is under consideration, rather than a confirmed fix.

Axens reports missing data in structured e-invoice flows, adding accounting work within its SAP-connected Symtrax invoice automation deployment.

Connecting invoice processing to SAP

The underlying automation project predates the latest transition. Symtrax’s Axens case study dates the initial go-live to January 1, 2024. The deployment replaced paper-based supplier invoice handling and manual SAP entry with a shared platform for receipt, verification, approval and integration.

Symtrax describes a workflow that collects invoices and attachments, matches invoice data against purchase orders and delivery documents, and routes discrepancies for approval. Its case study lists SAP BAPI synchronization, invoice integration through MIRO for purchase-order invoices and FB60 for invoices without purchase orders, and retrieval of SAP processing and payment statuses.

The vendor’s earlier case study described more than 20,000 invoices annually and over 1,000 suppliers, nearly 60% of them international. Those historical figures provide context for the deployment’s scope; they are separate from the supplier participation figures reported in November.

Axens also presented its choice of Compleo as an alternative to SAP Document and Reporting Compliance at the October 14 USF convention in Strasbourg. The workshop focused on purchase and sales invoice flows and international compliance requirements.

For the incoming invoice workflow, the unresolved task is preserving the document detail accountants need when suppliers move from PDFs to structured exchanges.
