How Toyota Finance Australia Replaced SAP ECC With Public Cloud ERP

Toyota Finance Australia replaced a 16-year-old SAP ECC environment with SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, giving finance users the ability to build reports and dashboards they previously relied on data specialists to create. The automotive lender went live in early August 2026 after a 13-month implementation called Project Kizuna.

Moulik Doshi, Toyota Finance Australia’s head of financial reporting and operations, described the migration at the SAP NOW AI Tour in Sydney on August 12. In its November 4 coverage of the session, iTnews reported that the team had examined how other systems depended on ECC before proceeding and made preparing staff for the new ERP a priority.

Testing whether public cloud could support the existing business

The planning team looked at the systems connected to ECC to determine whether the proposed public cloud setup could support the business. Toyota Finance Australia provides vehicle loans, dealer financing, and fleet services. Doshi described the review at the ERP level. The public account gives no breakdown of which applications were connected or which interfaces the team retained, rebuilt, or retired.

That review mattered because the public edition handles customization differently from ECC. SAP’s clean core model uses supported extension tools and published interfaces so customer-specific changes can coexist with vendor-managed upgrades. Some changes can be made within the application using SAP’s built-in tools. Other requirements can be handled in separate applications that connect to the ERP through SAP-released APIs. Those are options available in the product. Toyota Finance Australia’s integration design remains undisclosed.

The project also comes ahead of a wider SAP maintenance milestone. SAP lists the end of 2027 as the close of mainstream maintenance for the latest three enhancement packages of SAP ERP 6.0, with optional extended maintenance through the end of 2030. The November account gives no specific maintenance deadline for Toyota Finance Australia’s former installation.

Finance users can build their own reports

Doshi said the company made user experience and staff readiness priorities during the rollout. Reporting gives a concrete example of what changed. Finance users can now create their own views of ERP data, including reports and dashboards that previously required help from a specialist team or individual.

SAP’s public edition includes embedded analytics tools for creating reports from ERP data and adapting standard queries with different fields and filters. That helps explain what self-service can mean in practice. A finance user can build a different view of the same data to answer a business question without submitting a request for a new report. Doshi did not identify the specific apps Toyota Finance Australia uses or quantify changes in reporting turnaround or month-end close. He said the company was still learning how to make use of the platform.
