Bombardier Cuts Aircraft Range Calculations From Four Hours to Seconds With Agentforce

Bombardier is putting aircraft performance analysis directly into sales conversations with Clara, an AI agent built on Salesforce Agentforce. According to Salesforce, a range-map calculation that previously required at least four hours of engineering work can now be completed in 10–20 seconds, allowing sellers to explore an aircraft’s capabilities while speaking with a prospective buyer.

The Canadian business jet manufacturer has deployed Clara and is expanding access to more than 300 sales team members worldwide. The agent connects customer records, technical documentation and specialized performance systems so sellers can investigate questions involving passenger loads, departure airports, runway restrictions and wind conditions without initiating a separate engineering request for each scenario.

Bombardier’s Clara AI agent turns aircraft range calculations into 10–20-second answers, connecting CRM, technical documents and performance models.

Salesforce published the implementation details on November 6, alongside accounts of Bombardier’s customer data and aircraft service operations. Together, they describe a business application strategy that brings technical analysis closer to the employees handling customer decisions. The reported time savings concern a specific sales engineering calculation, rather than aircraft engineering work as a whole.

Answering technical questions while the buyer is still in the conversation

Aircraft sales require answers that go well beyond a model’s published specifications. A buyer may want to understand how passenger numbers or airport conditions affect a proposed mission. A useful response needs to reflect those assumptions, especially when the customer starts changing them during a discussion.

Previously, Bombardier’s sales directors relied on a small specialist sales engineering team for complex calculations. Requests and revisions could involve extended exchanges, with international time differences adding delays. That created a dependency between the commercial conversation and the availability of technical expertise.

Clara gives sellers a way to investigate those questions through their existing CRM environment. They can request an analysis, examine the resulting range visualization and adjust the scenario as the discussion develops. The practical change is that a customer can explore alternatives in the same meeting, rather than wait for a subsequent technical response.

This matters particularly when the answer depends on several connected variables. Adding passengers changes the payload assumption. Choosing another airport changes the operating context. An interactive calculation lets the seller show how those changes affect the result instead of treating each question as a separate follow-up task.

Connecting the question to the systems that calculate the answer

Clara combines document retrieval with calls to specialized performance services. For technical questions and aircraft comparisons, it draws on more than 500 documents using retrieval-augmented generation, providing answers grounded in technical material.

Range analysis follows a calculation workflow. Aircraft Performance Group’s API supplies runway-related performance information, Bombardier’s proprietary models calculate range using factors including seasonal winds, and Azure Maps presents the result. Salesforce’s account describes an orchestration layer that converts the seller’s request into structured inputs and returns the analysis to the CRM interface.

The architecture gives the language interface a defined role: connecting a commercial question with the data and calculation tools needed to answer it. The aircraft performance models remain essential to the result.

The external performance component also explains why a range question requires more than drawing a distance around an airport. In its runway analysis documentation, Aircraft Performance Group describes calculations that consider runway distances, slope, obstacles, weather and aircraft configuration. Those conditions can constrain the weight at which an aircraft can depart, affecting the assumptions available for a proposed mission.

APG separately states that its analysis uses manufacturer-published information, including aircraft flight manual performance tables and Standard Computerized Airplane Performance programs. That provides context for the specialized calculation service involved. It does not independently validate Clara’s overall results.

Building the customer context around the technical answer

Clara sits within a broader effort to improve how Bombardier’s sales organization uses customer information. In a separate implementation account, Salesforce says relevant intelligence had been distributed across nearly 20 internal and external systems. The current Data 360 deployment unifies CRM and market intelligence from six sources, a narrower figure than the total number of systems described in the original environment.

MuleSoft connects information from JetNet, S&P Capital IQ, WealthX and ZoomInfo. These sources contribute aircraft ownership and flight activity, financial events, wealth indicators, and company and contact intelligence. Databricks supplies additional operational and historical context through a zero-copy connection, while SharePoint contributes technical documentation.

A custom Einstein Discovery model evaluates combinations of signals and alerts sellers when a prospect meets Bombardier’s qualification threshold. Sales Cloud presents the resulting customer context, while a voice-to-text integration lets employees record meeting notes and update their pipeline by speaking.

For sellers, this connects two different parts of preparation: understanding whether a prospect may be ready to buy and answering the technical questions that follow. Salesforce does not publish a quantified improvement in conversion rates from this combined workflow.

What the reported results establish

The strongest reported outcome is the reduction in range-map calculation time. Moving that task from at least four hours of engineering work to 10–20 seconds changes when the analysis can be used. A calculation that once supported a later response can become part of a live discussion.

Salesforce also reports 97% accuracy on complex technical calculations and a 5/5 user satisfaction score at launch. The published account does not explain the accuracy test population, acceptance criteria or distribution of errors. It also does not disclose the number of people who supplied the satisfaction rating. These are vendor-published customer results, without an accompanying independent evaluation.

Those omissions limit how broadly the figures can be interpreted. The accuracy percentage alone does not establish which requests require specialist review or how the system handles a result that falls outside acceptable tolerances. Likewise, the launch satisfaction score provides little evidence about sustained adoption without a respondent count or subsequent usage data.

Bombardier built and deployed Clara in 15 weeks with Salesforce Professional Services and forward-deployed engineers. The global expansion to more than 300 sales employees remains in progress. That rollout target should therefore be distinguished from a confirmed count of active users.

Extending connected workflows into aircraft service

The service implementation addresses another point where customer information and technical work need to meet. Service Cloud handles aircraft-on-ground cases in Bombardier’s Customer Response Center. When field assistance is required, the Maintenance Command Center coordinates the response, with a person confirming technician availability and contacting the customer before dispatch.

Field Service supports scheduling around technician skills, availability, location and travel time, alongside work orders, parts and service appointments. Technicians can access and update their work through the mobile application. Salesforce describes the benefit as better coordinated dispatch, but supplies no numerical reduction in repair time or aircraft downtime.

AI-assisted diagnosis is a planned next step. Bombardier intends to connect service personnel with Data 360 and internal knowledge during case intake, potentially extending access to the technical material already supporting Clara. The published account does not establish that this diagnostic capability is operational.

For the sales deployment, the next business question is whether faster technical answers improve the progress of actual opportunities. Wider adoption, fewer engineering escalations, shorter sales cycles and changes in conversion would help establish that impact. The published results do not yet quantify those outcomes, leaving calculation speed as the clearest demonstrated measure.
