Esker has appointed Matthias Goehler as Chief Product Officer to lead its global product strategy, with responsibility for advancing agentic AI and involving customers more closely in product development. Announced October 28, the appointment puts the former Zendesk and SAP executive in charge of turning that strategy into a product roadmap for finance teams.

Goehler previously served as Chief Technology Officer for EMEA at Zendesk and spent 16 years at SAP in senior product management and strategy roles. His remit at Esker includes aligning product development with research and development, marketing and sales.
“My priority is to ensure that every product investment delivers meaningful value to our customers,” Goehler said in the appointment announcement.
Esker said he will create more opportunities for customers to participate in development and co-innovation. Jean-Jacques Berard, identified in the announcement as Esker’s Chief Product & Technology Officer, pointed to Goehler’s experience translating emerging technologies into business value.
Product Priorities Meet Finance Teams’ Demand for Control
The appointment follows Esker’s introduction of the Synergy Agentic Framework, designed to coordinate work across source-to-pay and order-to-cash processes. The framework combines AI agents, conversational interactions and enterprise connectivity with controls governing permissions, approvals and exceptions.
For finance users, that approach concerns how agents handle activities such as invoice exceptions, collections and cash application, including when work must return to a person for judgment or authorization.
Esker’s own research illustrates the expectations surrounding those product decisions. Its 2026 Global Finance AI Trust Index surveyed 338 finance leaders, including 137 CFOs. According to the company’s report page, 66% want finance decisions to be primarily AI-guided or AI-enabled within the next year, while 90% have policies against unapproved AI use or are developing them. These are findings from a company-sponsored survey, rather than independently verified measures of deployment performance.
The October 28 announcement outlines Goehler’s leadership responsibilities and product priorities. It does not specify a release timetable for additional agentic AI capabilities.
