SAP’s ERP Migration Assistants Enter Early-Adopter Customer Projects

SAP’s four migration and modernization assistants are now supporting live cloud ERP transformation projects at early-adopter customers, the company said on October 28. The tools address data preparation, testing, custom code and system configuration, bringing AI into the work required to move to cloud ERP.

Previously introduced at SAP Sapphire, the assistants have reached early customer use. The announcement does not establish general availability.

SAP’s four ERP migration assistants are supporting early-adopter projects, covering data quality, testing, custom code modernization and configuration.

Four workstreams, different responsibilities

According to SAP, the Data Management Assistant prioritizes data quality problems by business impact and supports automated or guided corrections. The Test Management Assistant derives test scope, cases and data requirements from processes and requirements, then hands cases to SAP Test Automation by Tricentis for execution.

The Custom Code Assistant assesses extensions, applies available automated fixes and recommends further corrections, supporting clean core principles and SAP-recommended APIs. The Business Configuration Assistant recommends and applies configurations, extracts source settings, flags deviations from target requirements and maintains an audit trail.

AkzoNobel provides an early customer example

SAP identifies AkzoNobel as a Data Management Assistant user in its RISE with SAP transformation. The company reports less analysis effort and faster planning, without quantified results.

For transformation leaders, the practical question is how these capabilities fit existing project controls. Data corrections, code changes and configuration decisions affect what teams must validate before deployment. Measured results from broader use would help establish how much work the assistants remove and where specialist review remains necessary.

SAP also plans System Analysis, Project Management and Rollout assistants. Those remain roadmap capabilities.
